Stain dismissal in rug - Stain dismissal Help

Hey guys...It's been a while since I've posted a helpful tip to add to your arsenal of automotive interior repairs I've giving here on my blog.

So I plan of giving you a little bit on Stain removal in Carpet. This is one thing I get a lot of questions for and that is how to get those nasty brown, or black, or even red stains out of the interior carpet of the vehicles I work on on a daily basis.

Fan

The trick isn't to it isn't no ifs ands or buts a trick at all, it's timing and knowledge of what to use where and when. Getting to a spill before it gets a opening to soak in is your best defense against a stain in your carpet. If you spill something wipe it up and soak it up as fast as potential and then flush with water and soak it up with a towel, or what ever you have at the time. But that's not all the time the case and that's where this little guide will help you, but no ifs ands or buts if you can wipe spills up a fast as you can and this helps to get the actual stain out later when you have more time.

One of the most common stains I see in vehicles are footprints or skid marks from dirty and greasy shoes. The riposte to this is a de-greaser. There are so many dissimilar options to use in this situation, but I'm here to make this as uncomplicated as potential and effective. Supplies you will need are a integrate of white towels, a scrub brush and a mild detergent, like dawn dish soap, a small pail of warm water mixing the soap to 1/4 oz. Soap to gallon of water. Dip your brush in the soap and water, scrub the areas lightly with the brush manufacture sure not to soak the carpet then wipe and blot with the towel. Repeat if necessary, wiping and blotting the area with the towel to take off the dirt and grime and the water, you don't want it to sour later if left wet. If your have a shop vac, use it to suck up the water and to fluff the carpet pile back up to dry better. Place a fan in the car if needed to dry further if you've had a bad one.

Now sometimes more then not you will need something a little stronger to get the grease out. I use Castrol Super Clean, the purple stuff. I've used uncomplicated Green at times too, and some of the products at some of information shops I'm at from time to time, so no ifs ands or buts any good de-greaser will work. Just spray the area with the cleaner, scrub with the brush, then wipe it up with a towel. Now if at all potential flush the area with water, this will help to take off the chemicals from the carpet and will help to preserve the natural look to the carpet. Some of those chemicals are pretty strong and if left can damage the carpet.

Soda pop and coffee stains, are someone else I run across a lot. Now this one can be booger to get out. A coffee stain if left can do permanent damage to the carpet and at times I have had to just dye the carpet to cover up the stain. If coffee is your problem, here are a few tips, catch the spill as fast as potential then flush with mild soap and water like before with the grease, but you may have to soak it a little more to get it out. Now if this is an old stain, one thing you can try is hydrogen peroxide. This can be used as a mild bleaching agent. Just pore a little in a cup and with a tooth brush scrub it into the stain let sit for about 20-30 minutes then flush with your soapy water solution. If this doesn't work, I found a goods at my local janitorial contribute shop called Perculator, it comes in spray bottle and is primarily a peroxide mix, and works pretty good, but it's still not a miracle worker. Coffee can be a pain, but with a little luck and timing on this one you can get it out. Now soda pop, if it's not an orange or red which I'll talk about in a minute, can usually be taken care of with the warm water and soap.

Food stains can range from greasy french fries smashed in the carpet to dried ketchup, to jelly beans and candy. Most of these can be dealt with with your soap and water. Ammonia can be added to the solution to help cut the greasy foods. Scrape the chunks out with a blunt knife before you get wet this will help to not spread the stain further. Candies might take a little more due to dyes added for color, wash as much as potential to take off the candy, if the stain remains you can try peroxide but like I said there are dyes in some candies that do just that, dye the carpet. Gum is someone else candy that can be removed with mostly picking it out but the rest might take a little chemical. Goof Off is a good one to keep on hand for a lot of dissimilar things, but it works great on gum too. After you pick most of it out just take a little Goof Off on a towel and wipe the rest right out.

Red Wine is sort of a food stain but treated a little different. If it's fresh flush with cold water and soak it up as much as possible. Try even a little club soda and pore directly onto the stain and soak it up with a towel. This should get most of it. One last trick is an enzyme cleaner, enzymes get right to it when it comes to food stains. They are known for removing food stuff stains, but I haven't had much luck with red wine though so I'll talk about it in a little on getting the red stains out of your carpet.

Now if you have a misfortune and happen to get a blood stain on your carpet then this one needs to be handled with cold water and not warm or you will set the stain. If it's dried then scrap the dried blood with a blunt knife to get the chunks out, vacuum them up, then scrub the area with cold water and a mild soap. Peroxide can be used to help take off the reddish tint if needed. Then flush again with the soap and water, then vacuum with your shop vac. One other remedy is a blood enzyme, which will eat the blood away. Blood Buster is good one, it's an enzymatic cleaner designed for bio stains.

One that I deal with upon opening is pet urine. Talk about nasty...but, hey they have to pee too, just not where we all the time want them to. This one is one you can go to your kitchen for, vinegar, helps to neutralize the acids in the pee. Supplies for this one are paper towels if still wet, white towels, mild soap and warm water, brush and vinegar. First soak up what you can with if it's still wet with the paper towels, next take your soapy solution of warm water and soap, 1/4oz. Of soap to a gallon of water, dip the brush and scrub the area with the soapy water, blot with the towel and repeat until the stain is gone. After wards pore a little vinegar over the stain and let set for about an hour. Lastly rinse with water and vacuum with a shop vac or dab with towels until mostly dry. If the stain is still there, let it dry, then apply an enzyme. Enzymes work no ifs ands or buts well for all bio stuffs along with urine. The guys over at Petguest have come up with a 100% enzyme integrate that is made for the elimination of pet stains and odors.

The old melted crayon stain in the carpet....Man what a mess this can be, but believe it or not it's pretty easy to take off if you have a clothes iron and a brown paper bag. Scrape the majority away with a blunt knife then lay the brown bag over the crayon and with the heated iron, rub it over the bag over the spot. The heat from the iron will melt the crayon into the bag. Just rotate the bag nearby to keep a clean side down and after a while the crayon will be on the bag not on the carpet. Patience on this one helps, but again if the spot remains try a little chemical like your Goof Off.

Paint is someone else carpet stain that can give you a bunch of problems. First thing you need to decree what kind of paint it is. If it's automotive paint then a solvent paint reducer or thinner can be used to take off it. I usually use lacquer thinner, works fast and removes most paint spills. Now if it's house paint, then scrape off the excess with a blunt knife and pull out the Goof Off, try not to spread it out to much, work small and from the face in on the stain. I guess nail polish is a paint, but with this one use nail polish remover or straight acetone with a towel, and again work the stain from the face in so to not spread it out to far.

Now this is probably got to be the worst carpet stain out there. The red stain in the carpet. This is caused by a #40 Red dye that is put in a lot of drinks like Kool Aid and, red and orange sodas. If you run across this one there is only one way to take off it and that's with a strong chemical. I have found a goods that I use on these type of stains and have had no ifs ands or buts good luck with it, it's called Red Dye Solution. There are others out there like Red Relief, and Red Out, all work pretty similar. You pore the chemical on the stain, and with a wet white towel and a steam iron you take off the stain. It is a time fascinating scheme and with some luck all of the stain will be removed. Sometimes a little blue hue will be left from the chemical but it sure is a lot better then a fascinating red stain jumping out at you. But with a little carpet dye over the top and your good as new. You can find these products usually at your local janitorial contribute shop or online. I'm working on getting some here on my site, so bare with me.

Stain removal In Carpetcan be frustrating at times, but there no substitute for a professional. These tips can help and may just save you but if you have any problems or feel that the stain is just a little above your head then don't hesitate to call an automotive interior repair expert like myself to come in a make your life a little easier. Laugh When it Hurts - Using Humor to Cope With the Downturn

The time it's most important to be able to laugh is when things look worst. Economic downturns can get pretty bleak when you're trying to stretch a fixed wage or watching hard-earned dollars wither as investments. But this unquestionably is the time to remember how to laugh. Humor can be incredibly therapeutic.

Before we go any farther, there's an important incompatibility to make as to the kind of humor I'm advocating here. The only man you should be laughing At is yourself. At your foibles, your shortcomings, your predicament. It's all fodder for jokes if you are the one development them.

Fan

However, laughing at other people isn't therapeutic. It's mean. Also youthful and short on creative genius. All the great comedians know this, but you don't have to do stand up to advantage from that insight. Laugh with other people. Laugh at yourself--even if you are looking at bankruptcy, foreclosure, or having to live with your impossibly messy younger brother because of this pesky economic downturn.

Why?

Because laughter unquestionably is good medicine. Norman Cousins was facing an incurable spine disease when he chose this strategy. Instead of staying in the hospital, he moved to a hotel and administered dose after dose of humor to himself every day in the form of excellent movie comedies. He wrote about the caress in Anatomy of an Illness, reporting that if he laughed for three hours in the morning, he would be pain free the rest of the day. Laughter can be even more efficient with emotional pain.

So find some ways to laugh. Martha Beck dedicates a whole chapter to laughter in The Joy Diet--and her writing is certainly laugh therapy. As one option, she suggests silliness. I am so pleased. I've been a personal fan of silliness my whole life, but it gets a unquestionably bad rap. Silliness in this culture is construed as flightiness, naiveté, and a lack of appreciation for the seriousness of the situation. What a waste of a good tool.

Silliness can do more to help you let go of intense emotions than anything else you can do upright. Silliness requires that you relinquish your problem, at least temporarily, to the ridiculousness of the moment. That's why my brothers spent their time in the waiting room while Dad was having quadruple bypass surgical operation inventing a goofy card game with impossible rules. That's why I cross my eyes when I can catch a friend's attention in the middle of a long-winded presentation.

Silly is not just for kids. It's your right and responsibility. Do something silly today and make the world a best place.

One way to be silly when times are tight is with games that make cutting back more fun. At one point when my then husband and I were coping with an economic gap, we started a contest to see who could use their paper lunch bag more times. Right, the idea is to be able to throw them away when you are done with your lunch. But how much fun is that? He won--I think he made it all the way to the fourth week, something like 21 consecutive lunches out of that same bag. Mine advanced a concluding tear on Day 16. Dang.

There are benefits beyond the fun to this kind of silliness. Have you noticed that "going green" and salvage money often involve the same behaviors? "Use it up. Wear it out. Recycle it." is good for both the environment and the pocketbook. And if you can find fun ways to do it, it's also good for your sense of well-being.

If you are willing to work on it, you can learn to laugh at nothing. Just "Ha ha has" for the therapeutic value it offers. There are clubs that meet to do this. Really. I haven't progressed this far. Even when I try to just laugh, I end up reasoning about something funny and laugh harder.

You'll have your own style on this, for sure. But only if you put some exertion into developing it. "Style" requires action. Refining and polishing your sense of humor is a great activity step for a downturn. Beck advocates at least thirty laughs a day and recommends a hundred. (Did That make you laugh?)

When things look awful, find a way to laugh. It can turn your mood in a heartbeat, costs only the power it takes to do it, and has no negative side effects. Maybe we should make it our first medicine for everything--even before a band-aid.

Northern Soul International Music and Dance Movement

Although many habitancy impart the sights and sounds of soul music as something native to the United States of America, it's important to point out that there were other countries complex with the soul music movement in the 1960's and '70's. One particularly large arm of this movement, called northern soul, took place in Europe as part of Britain's "mod scene." A aggregate of black American soul music and the heavy rhythm and quick tempo of the Tamla Motown sound, which was popular in the mid-1960s, this type of soul music inspired dance steps and fashions that are still recognizable today..

Like so much of the musical terminology and language that was developing during this era, the name 'northern soul' is said to have been coined in a narrative shop. Dave Godin, a journalist who had a weekly column in the Blues and Soul magazine, is credited with the creating the term in the late 1960's, as a way to help his clerks know which type of music to play for customers coming from the north of England. These customers weren't curious in the modern funkier sounds playing on American radio. Instead, they were looking for the smoother, Motown-influenced soul that had been popular on the charts a handful of years prior..

Fan

Interestingly, the sounds that are now associated with northern soul in retrospect were indeed the sounds of failure for most budding American artists. Those who were late in trying to jump on the Motown bandwagon found that American audiences were tired of the sultry, soulful music that had been popular just years before. As American listeners moved onto the more upbeat music that would at last transform into the funk and pop of today, the Northern England bunch were holding on to the sweet sounds of primary Motown. Artists that failed in the U.S. Were quietly hailed as new talent in the U.K..

For the longest time, northern soul was kept alive because there were fullness of these "one hit wonders" for Djs and clubs to witness over and over again. Even though the music was dated, it was new on the scene, and habitancy couldn't get enough of it. However, slowly the reserves of soul music were beginning to run dry, as young artist became curious in other genres. The beginning of the 1980s practically saw the end of this movement, but thanks to the revival of the 1970s mod style, the coming of the scooterboy subculture and the popularity of the Acid jazz movement, more fans were born.

Greenhouses - Mistakes to Be Avoided

The potential Victorian greenhouses of today are truly remarkable. With technology has come great understanding and invention. Hence, problems that dogged the enthusiast years ago with punishing force no longer factor. The infestation which would at one time have ruined months of specific labor is now entirely preventable. As such, it can seem as though the greenhouse is under our total operate at all times. Unfortunately this is not quite the case. Though technology may have progressed to the point where the larger problems are a thing resigned to the past, there still remain a number of smaller ones which need to be kept in check. Here are the top five greenhouse mistakes to be avoided at all cost:

Use of Poor potential Water

Fan

The temptation to use tap water in the greenhouse over rain-water is a strong and entirely understandable one. After all, for many years we have been told about the hazards of acid rain. In some cases we have even seen the effects of this first-hand. Remarkably, though, rain water is universally carefully to be the far excellent of the two. The reckon for this is simple: it contains scarcely any trace of salt and is, for the most part, relatively clean. In other words, while tap water may be perfectly favorable for humans, it contains a degree of toxins and other chemicals (sodium, when softened) which can have a disastrous impact on soil structure.

Greenhouse Over-watering

The watering of plants has long been the source of great misunderstanding. As deeply entrenched as any urban myth is the idea that wilting leaves must mean a plant is dying. This is not true. A plant's well-being plainly can not be accurately gauged by such things as its leaves, and especially not by anyone less than a horticultural expert. Best is to address the soil. Dry soil means the plant requires watering at once. To avoid greenhouse misting (a institution which can aid the spread of diseases) do this in the early hours of the morning.

Greenhouse Climate

The contemporary Victorian greenhouse may be designed down to the finest information and seem practically able to conduct itself, but that does not mean that it is without need of specific setting-up. Providing the definite atmosphere for the organic furnish or plants you intend to grow is entirely the owner's responsibility. It is something which differs widely, according to future plans and definite intentions. Will a heater be used? What about fans? These are crucial questions to be answered well in advance.

Also prominent are the following: ventilation and shading. In the confined greenhouse environment, secluded from the natural patterns of the weather, air circulation is of immense importance. Without the right degree of this plants can suffer a great deal. Shading must also be handled carefully-too much being just as perilous as too little.

High-pressure Watering / The Application of Water to Leaves

Working on the assumption that high-pressure watering systems (suitably designed for environments like the greenhouse) are built with such things in mind, it would be very easy to make a fatal mistake thoroughly by accident. This force may be of puny concern to established plants, but for younger plants it can incur injury. Moreover, in some cases it can break a plant's stem, ultimately incurring a premature death.

Applying water to a plant's leaves should also be avoided. The roots will take care of all watering needs much more efficiently. Only apply water to leaves to clear mud and debris.

The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya Volume 1 recite

The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya has grown to be one of the most favorite anime in Japan and nearby the world. Aired in 2006, this smash-hit dominated the anime store at the time and still holds heavy popularity. The series is largely targeted at the otaku croud with varied references to other anime and Japanese pop culture. This is one of the most customary anime series in years and there are some key points that prove this.

The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya starts out with lesson 00. It features the main characters of the anime cast in a film made for a school cultural festival. This lesson does not happen chronologically until some episodes down the line, a feature this series uses throughout its airing. Many viewers were turned off of the show by this first episode, not comprehension what was going on or reasoning the series was about something thoroughly different. Theoretically, one could skip lesson 00 and would not lose any of the series. any way you lose the very customary and unique feel of the series. The story admittedly starts with lesson 1. This out-of-order coming continues throughout the series. For example, what would be lesson 4 is not aired until lesson 7. The Dvd publish follows chronological order though, with lesson 00 still showing first.

The series uses many otaku references throughout. They are used in-character by Haruhi and others which gives it a very real-life feel to it while also keeping the silly atmosphere. Chief among these are more and bunny girl outfits. Must more central to the plot is the inclusion of non-human beings like aliens in a high school setting.

Don't get caught up in all the asides though. The real motion to this series is in the title character, Haruhi Suzumiya, and her group of clubmates. Haruhi takes the gorgeous lead-female character and transforms it into a class of her own with her oddities and anyone but melancholic personality. The series takes off with Kyon talking with Haruhi, a very rare occurrence for Haruhi; none of her other classmates could get a word out of her. Kyon is the narrator of the series and is also a principle character in the series. A seemingly-cynical high school student, Kyon is dragged into Haruhi's club unwillingly but decides to stay to safe the other members. They consist of Yuki Nagato, a very quiet first-year student who all the time has her nose in a book; Mikuru Asahina, a gorgeous junior who is extremely timid and seemingly at Haruhi's mercy; and Itsuki Koizumi, the mysterious exchange student Haruhi was wishing for. All of the other club members seem to do Haruhi's bidding but in truth they all have their own inexpressive schedule for being there.

The soundtrack is used very well in the series. But the ending theme admittedly steals the show, becoming immensely favorite nearby the world. Most of the Ost was done by Haruhi's seiyyu, Aya Hirano, with Chihara Minori and Yuko Goto, the seiyyus for Yuki and Mikuru, respectively, also performing.

The Dvd has some changes from the customary broadcast episodes. One major point is some changes in dubbing from the original. For example, "Future Man" is used instead of "time traveler" from the fansub, and the originally "Date Integration understanding Entity" shortened to naturally "thought entity." One should wonder why they would make changes like this that would seem to be unfavorable to most fans. There are also some minor changes in animation but they are very hard to catch.

The English cast is questionable at best. Its a good crew no doubt, but compared with the customary Japanese they just don't stand up to the task. Wendee Lee played Haruhi in the English dub and certainly had the excitement and tone to play Haruhi. But when compared to Aya Hirano, Wendee's voice just seems out of place. Crispin Freeman does a fair job as Kyon and might be the best of the English crew. Stephanie Sheh mimics the voice of Mikuru fairly well but it just doesn't sound like a genuine English voice. Johnny Bosch's voice is considerably dissimilar than Daisuke Ono but still fit the part fine. Michelle Ruff's rendition of Yuki is too monotone even for a character like Yuki.

Bandai was not a favorite choice to license Haruhi but has done a good job thus far. Dvd 1 is packed with extras like "making of"'s and behind-the-scenes looks at tv spots. The little Edition also come with the Ed Cd, a cosplay hair ribbon, a drawing board, and an iron-on shirt transfer.

The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya is an anime that will motion mostly to the otaku crowd but can give universal enjoyment. Volume 1 only gives a behold of what is to come in this drama-packed comedy.

Rolling Stones Albums - Four Decades of Rock

Few bands can claim immortal popularity. The Rolling Stones albums are proof any way that this band deserves to live forever in its music. The group's music has been alive for close to five decades, earning for the group a whopping more than 200 million album sales, numerous recognitions and repeated inductions in various halls of fame and all time lists.

The English group's roots go way back in 1962 when long time friends Mick Jagger and Keith Richards started playing for a club as the Rollin' Stones. The preliminary line up was completed by guitarist Brian Jones, pianist Ian Stewart, bassist Mick Taylor and drummer Tony Chapman. Drummer Charlie Watts and bassist Bill Wyman joined the band at a later date. Jones had been credited as band leader and the creator of the group's first name. Obviously though, fans of Rolling Stones Cds will no doubt say that Jagger has since eclipsed Jones in popularity.

Fan

From their preliminary stint as a club act, the group signed a deal with Decca records in 1963. Because Decca made the mistake of turning down the Beatles, the deal set before the group was said to have been more generous than usual, giving them high royalty rates, artistic control and choice of material for recording. The band's first particular was released in the same year but this was to be the start of brief tough times for the boys. The potential of songs produced from this point on had itsybitsy originality and request for retrial and even the members' appearances had been openly criticized.

By 1964, the group's status started to pick up more steam as their renditions of beloved classics like itsybitsy Red Rooster and It's All Over Now started to climb the charts. This was an early indication that a wider acceptance for customary material in Rolling Stones albums would be conveniently met. The group went on to accomplish chart topping hits The Last Time, Satsifaction, Paint it Black, Mother's itsybitsy Helper, Ruby Tuesday and Midnight Rambler.

At the beginning of the 70s the band had already established a solid foothold in the music scene. They were so entrenched in beloved culture that by the time their compact with Decca expired, they were able to stay solid under their own article label. This was not the only major shift in this decade. The group eventually left England and set up base in France.

By the 1980s the group had reached its vocation peak. Although previous years had been peppered by band members leaving, member deaths, personal rifts and drug use charges, it was in the 80s when more valuable disagreement began. Key members Jagger and Richards began to clash head to head. It was only in 1989 after the group's induction into the American Rock and Roll Hall of Fame that the two reconciled for a new album.

In 1992, private band members followed Jagger's lead and started on private vocation moves of their own. Although they prolonged to make music together, the group went through a seven year duration without putting up new material. It was only in 2005 that A Bigger Bang was released.

Despite the band's age and dated musical age, there is naturally no killing the sales of Rolling Stone Cds. The group is the only one to date that can still claim a top chart position for superior re issues.

Laptop Overheating Problems - The Easy Cure

If your laptop runs too hot to use on your lap, it doesn't necessarily mean that there is anyone wrong with the machine. The manufacturers call these machines notebook Pcs for good reason. The fact is that many of them run far too hot to be used on a lap in ease for more than a few minutes. The solution is to move the engine on to a laptop tray or on to a desktop.

You can recognize true overheating by looking for the following symptoms:

Fan

1. The machine's cooling fans will work continuously and noisily at maximum speed.

2. The laptop will suddenly shut down without warning, perhaps after only a few minutes of operation.

3. The laptop will shut down shortly after you start to use any software that makes the processor work hard (3D Games, movie players, video editing software, etc.).

If you sense any of these symptoms then it is inexpensive to assume that your laptop has got an overheating problem, and the next thing is to try to recognize the cause

Of course, your laptop may have a fault or, in some rare cases, a compose qoute that means that you will need to speak to your dealer. But the most common explanation by far is either one or both of these:

1. You are using your laptop in a way that is preventing the cooling ideas from working properly.

2. Your laptop's cooling ideas is clogged with dirt and dust.

The good news in both cases is that it is unquestionably easy to fix. There is no need to return your engine to the constructor and no need for big fix bills. Here are two things to try before you do anyone else.

Solution 1: Let Your Laptop Breathe

Take a rigorous look at your laptop and see if you can recognize two things:

1. The cooling fan exhaust port. This is regularly on the side of the engine and easy to find when it is running because it blows hot air out over your hand.

2. The air intake grills. These are regularly just a set of slots in the casing that will let air into the machine. They are not so positive and are sometime placed on the side, but most likely these days they will be on the bottom.

The components inside your laptop generate a lot of heat as they work. Your laptop's cooling ideas removes this heat by sucking cool air straight through the input grills and passing it colse to all the hot components inside. The resulting warm air is then blown out of the exhaust port. The cooling ideas does this continuously all the time your engine operates and, as long as nothing happens to interrupt the flow of air, nothing more is needed to keep the engine cool.

The issue is that, shortly after they scrutinize that a laptop runs too hot to use on directly on their lap, many habitancy simply move the engine to a cushion, to the couch, or to the carpet. As soon as they do that, guess what? They start to block up the cooling ideas air intakes and a itsybitsy while after that their engine starts to overheat.

Of course, as soon as you comprehend what is going on, the solution is obvious. simply move the engine to a flat, hard exterior that will allow the cooling air to circulate. Let your laptop breathe!

Solution 2: Keep it Clean

You probably remember from science lessons that one of the things about spellbinding hot dry air is that it speedily builds up a static charge in objects colse to it. When this happens inside your laptop the inside surfaces start to behave like dust magnets. Any particles of dust or dirt that pass straight through will most likely stick as if they had been glued.

As they do this, they begin to build-up an insulating dust layer which is so sufficient at preventing heat from escaping that it can cause serious overheating problems quite quickly.

The solution to this qoute is to clean the cooling ideas out regularly. This is an easy procedure and it doesn't need you to dismantle your engine or to do anyone that will invalidate your warranty.

You need two things:

1. An aerosol air duster (available from all good Pc Stores).

2. A vacuum cleaner with a crevice tool.

The procedure is quite simple:

1. Make sure that the laptop is switched off and disconnected from any power source before you begin.

2. Use the air duster to dislodge the dust by blowing straight through the intake grills and exhaust ports.

3. At the same time, suck the loose dust up with the vacuum cleaner.

Repeat this process every few months to keep your laptop's cooling ideas in good working order and it will work properly without the need of a powered cooling tray or any other special gadget.

The Dukan Diet - Is It Any Good?

The Dukan diet is most recent of a long line of wonder diets that appear every year or two. In the past we have had the F Plan, The Beverly Hills, Cabbage, Atkins and many more diet plans that were going to make us all slimmer and fitter. The fact that so many of us are still over weight seems to inquire the long term effectiveness of some of these diets.

So how does the Dukan Diet score on the achievability scale? At first descry it has a lot going for it, having been industrialized by doctor and weight loss scholar Pierre Dukan. The diet like its author originated in France where we are told over more than 1.5 million French woman swear by this diet. Amongst its keenest fans are Jennifer Lopez and Giusele Bundchen.

Fan

Dr Dukan claims that his diet is intended for those who need to lose a indispensable number of weight. So if you need to lose less than 20 lbs the diet is probably not for you. However, with its promise of quick weight lose in the early stage and a steady lose as you pass straight through the four stages of the diet it has some appeal.

For the first week you are restricted to a protein only diet and in this respect it may sound very much like the Atkins diet but there are some very marked differences. When it says "protein only" that is exactly what it means, you cannot even look at a lettuce leaf or a broccoli floret. Also this is very much a time minute phase of the diet which you should only stay on for a week to 10 days.

As with the Atkin's diet I think that such a high protein diet will give you some public problems such as flatulence and bad breath in the early stages. So your friends may stay away from you while this period. You may also feel tired and drained whilst you are on this phase of the diet.

The good news is that you should loose up to 10 lb in weight while this period. The Dukan Diet was devised for habitancy with serious weight problems who needed to lose a indispensable number of weight. There are best ways if you are just seeing to drop a dress size or get into an old pair of jeans.

If you do undertake this first phase of the diet you are advised to drink 3 litres of water a day. A typical days' diet in what is called the charge Phase would be eggs for breakfast, a piece of fish for lunch and a lean steak for dinner. As you will already be able to see the Dukan Diet is not going to be for everyone but if you want to lose a indispensable number of weight reasonably speedily then this could be what you are seeing for.

Nureyev MacMillan the Royal Ballet, the Paris Opera, La Scala, Milan, Interview With Patricia Ruanne

Patricia Ruanne, a conversation with a ballet mistress in an interview with Bill Bissell

Introduction o

Fan

Patricia Ruanne is concerned with the abiding aesthetic and ethical values that constitute ballet as an art form. In this world, artistic values are informed by aesthetics as well as ethics. Her impressive report as a dance artist-as performer, coach, ballet mistress, répétiteur-has yielded a marvelous career. Ruanne's enounce estimation of the European ballet scene is framed by her early years spent in the Royal Ballet schools and companies, the 1960s through the early 1980s-a duration marked by prolific creativity and strong performing personalities-as well as by her long and formative working connection with Rudolf Nureyev.

Patricia Ruanne's dance pedigree was attained at England's Royal Ballet schools at White Lodge and Baron's Court. Her career ranges over an impressive roster of performing due that includes contracts with the Royal Ballet and Royal Ballet Touring companies, London Festival Ballet (now English National Ballet), and many guest appearances on numerous projects and tours, some of which were gathered together as vehicles for Nureyev. A turning point in Ruanne's career as a dancer came when Nureyev selected her to generate the role of Juliet in his landmark production of Romeo and Juliet. 2002 marked the twenty-fifth anniversary of this production, which was premiered by the London Festival Ballet at the Coliseum on 2 June 1977.

Among other roles she created in expanding to Juliet was the female lead in Ronald Hynd's The Sanguine Fan for London Festival Ballet in 1976. Ruanne retired from performing in 1983 and in her last season received an Olivier nomination for her portrayal of Tatiana in John Cranko's Onegin with London Festival Ballet-her first execution in that ballet. From 1983-85, she was ballet mistress for Lfb and, bringing history full circle, is currently working with the Enb on a revival of Nureyev's Romeo and Juliet in a production that will receive its first execution on the company's spring tour in Liverpool on 5 March 2002.

When Nureyev assumed the artistic direction of the Paris Opera Ballet in 1983, Ruanne followed him there in 1986 to come to be a Ballet Mistress. While the decade that followed in Paris, Ruanne became responsible for restaging many productions of his ballets on numerous companies colse to the world. Since leaving the Paris Opera in 1996, Ruanne has been engaged throughout Europe restaging the works of Kenneth MacMillian, while also remaining one of the significant artistic caretakers of Rudolf Nureyev's choreographic body of work. From 1999-2001, Ruanne was acting director of the ballet business for the La Scala theatre in Milan, Italy.

The first part of this conversation considers Ruanne's pro development as a dancer, beginning with the Royal Ballet Touring business under the direction of John Field and lasting up through her recently held position as Direttore del Corpo di Ballo at La Scala. The second part of the conversation focuses on Ruanne's work with Rudolf Nureyev. Her perspective supports the need for new significant attentiveness to Nureyev's versions of ballet classics such as Swan Lake, Don Quixote, La Bayadère, and Sleeping Beauty. Ruanne astutely makes the case that these works need and deserve to be documented and preserved. Evidence that Nureyev's Don Quixote "has not been bettered," in Ruanne's estimation, is provided by major restagings in Spring 2002 at both the Royal Ballet in London and the Paris Opera Ballet.

This interview by Bill Bissell, took place on 2 March 2001, at the Palais Garnier in Paris, where Ruanne was engaged with the restaging of Kenneth MacMillan's Manon for the Paris Opera Ballet. Subsequent interviewing took place While the summer of 2001. Bill Bissell, who interviewed Ruanne, is director of Dance enlarge in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The complete interview can be found on http://www.dancemasters-jahn-ruanne.com and was submitted by Frederic Jahn

Part 1: retention Dance

Bill Bissell: I've unquestionably read your name in publications over the years, but being an American, I suppose I viewed you as part of a European community that I didn't ever unquestionably feel live or gain exposure to. For all the closeness of the dance world there is also a geographic set of boundaries that isolate us. However, you did dance in the United States and I'm wondering if you could begin by talking about the circumstances of those visits?

Ms. Ruanne: My first guest appearances in the United States were in Tulsa and Hawaii, and I mean it was just unquestionably great fun. And then when Rudolf had created Romeo and Juliet for London Festival Ballet (now English National Ballet), we went to America to the Metropolitan Opera House and also to Washington. So, that was my big official step into America, which was terrific-it was a great success for the business especially since it had always been the Royal Ballet's territory. We went on Rudolf's back because he was the pull of the production, which was fairly sensational.

Bb: Does New York hold the same sort of seductive powers over dancers in European companies that it has on U. S.-based companies?

Ms. Ruanne: I think everybody in this business is particularly absorbed into the image of New York being the pinnacle-that if you can make it in New York you've made it professionally. But I'm not sure that everybody in Europe has quite the realization of how foremost this feel can be. Though I think dancers are aware that the wider the audience they reach the better it is for them as artists, I'm still not determined that they comprehend just how crucial it is and how stimulating it is to touch a distinct public.

Bb: In looking at the trajectory of your career, how would you collate the choices that helped to define you as an artist?

Ms. Ruanne: All of my work in my pro life as a dancer was based in England where I started with the Royal Ballet. All I did was cross the river to Festival Ballet, which was the same thing but different. I've worked all over the world, but I needed a home. I needed a company. I did do lots of guest performances, but I never really, unquestionably enjoyed that life. I was never happy with the guest circuit like determined dancers. I couldn't bear being tossed into a production and being surrounded by people who you don't unquestionably know as colleagues. You don't have a lot of time to work with them or with each other on the production. You are just inserted into something, and I found that deeply unsatisfactory. Any execution is the pulling together of a lot of people. It's not just the star. And I was only comfortable when I was with a group of people that I knew and there's an tremendous gift that comes from feeling everybody on the stage. So, my whole background was in Royal Ballet, the touring group of the Royal Ballet and then I had the demented delight with working with Ben Stevenson at Festival Ballet and it was just wonderful.

Bb: What about your career as a coach and ballet mistress, how did that develop?

Ms. Ruanne: I was always interested in working with dancers. I used to coach at Festival Ballet in the later years when I was still performing and I loved it. I loved working with the young adults and then looking their performance. It's such a astonishing feeling looking people understand and develop. But I don't know that I would have had the courage to put myself send as a ballet mistress or somebody who did it as a profession. But Rudolf saw it, and he said, "Well, just come and just shut up and just do it." So, I worked with him for many years, you know, taking rehearsals and all the rest of it. And my learning process continued for a long, long time after I stopped dancing because it's a distinct skill to teach and coach dancers. You come to be a distinct type of transmitter. So, I think that he, in the end, inevitably had the greatest sway on the direction I went after I stopped performing.

With coaching all you can do is to help understanding. If the physical element has not yet totally kicked in, that's not so important, as long as the mind understands what's needed because it may be that in two years time the physical part will happen automatically-as long as the dancer understands how it must be, what it is they should be searching for in the role. That's what they are working towards and that's the ideal: that they understand how to get to that point of knowing what the quest is about. If they haven't got it quite yet that's not something the group necessarily is going to know or recognize. It's a degree of perfection that we should be aware of, and that dancers should be aware of, which is why I so often hear dancers say "that's not how I wanted it, not the way I want it, it's not why I rehearsed it, it didn't come out." Dancers are so often disappointed when they know that they understand what they're supposed to do, but they don't have all of it under operate yet.

Coaching is not just about technical issues however, it is also about sensibility. The role of coaching is unquestionably transmitting. The big issue here is: you can send all your life, but you have to be received by the listener-you can't force whatever to switch on their radios.

Bb: Were there other personal role models or other people that influenced you while you were dancing or when you began coaching and teaching?

Ms. Ruanne: Artists certainly-obviously Fonteyn. The generation we had then-performers we learned from just by watching-has no parallel today. In fact today's generation very often feels artistically feeble in comparison. There was a richness-a tapestry of such richness that it's hard to prestige today because they were all extremely individual. I mean that was the most astonishing fertile field to look at and to admire and to try to emulate. You could never be like those people and learn all of what they were passing on. They were all just astonishing for us-Svetlana Berisova, Merle Park, Beryl Grey, Lynne Seymour, Antoinette Sibley.

I was very fortunate that I was in the touring business of the Royal Ballet, directed by John Field. He had a very clear passion. He believed that you shouldn't wait. He believed in developing dancers while they were young enough not to be frightened, not to put too many obstacles in their own minds against themselves. So, we were all thrown into the deep end at very early age, and I think that that was also tremendous gift that you didn't have to wait seven or eight years before you got your first role-it was roughly immediate. And that practical feel is inevitably so precious. In all that generation I think I prestige John, particularly, for helping me understand and get ahead with my dance career. I think that his first great love was for the theater; this was what was foremost to him, and he was right. In some of those slight towns in the north of England they had never seen a dancer; it was the kind of environment where Billy Elliot [the fictional character in the up-to-date film of the same name] was raised. But the English do have a very strong theatrical tradition. What we seemed to touch as dancers was the public's sense of theater. I realized that what we were doing in dance-in a way-was telling a story. If you do it through dance, though, it still needed to speak to you in that sort of report or storytelling way. And this view, which John held to so firmly, was a tremendous sway on me and other dancers because it gave us an additional one handle on what we were doing on stage. What became foremost to me was the credibility of the character, the report element that we could find in the movement that audiences could communicate to. There is a slight bit of actor in all of us, I guess, and that was the thing that I became most passionate about. I was never very comfortable in abstract pieces-though I did not hate them-but I loved the roles where I could find a personality and make people believe in that person. And so John Field was very influential in this sense on my development.

John was the only director I knew on terms well enough to talk to and understand his point of view and concept processes-or purpose-as a director. With de Valois I never had this kind of familiarity-she was already the great woman and I was far too young to have had any group feel with her. Beryl Grey at Festival Ballet was astonishing and she was an perfect director, but at the same time she wasn't a someone with whom you would discuss the why and wherefore of directing a business or the problems that come with it. John was more forthcoming. And interestingly, he always believed I should direct. He concept I was director material, whatever that means, when I was still dancing. So inevitably there were conversations about the way he saw things and how he felt about this or that and how he concept dancers should be taken care of. But I think it's futile information in the abstract because it depends on where you are and what you are doing. I think if you were directing a business where you have an tremendous backup aid and you have an administrator who can take part of the load, then maybe one could take some delight from directing a ballet company. I can't talk to you about being a director of a business because I'm unquestionably a jack-of-all-trades. I suppose I'm fortunate in the sense that over the years I have been exposed to a lot of people who work for dance companies and I've always been interested in how everybody else functions within our environment, either a lighting man or the wardrobe mistress-whomever.

Bb: Do distinctions remain in the middle of companies like the Royal Ballet, Paris Opera Ballet, or La Scala?

Ms. Ruanne: I don't think there are many differences. I know there was a duration when you could tell a French dancer before they even danced. An English dancer had the same impact. I think, for a start, dancers have come to be so much more gymnastic. The whole recipe has altered. Our perception of the perfect physique has altered. Male dancers tended in the past to be blocky and now, there is a determined androgyny that is part of the picture. Many male dancers have legs and feet that could be those of a girl. This physical look is always in the process of altering. physical convert is very organic to the art form, I think. Tastes change, ideas change, there are elements that can be bred, but I am roughly determined that in ten years it will all convert again.

Bb: Are there things that are being lost?

Ms. Ruanne: Yes, to a determined degree things will be lost. For example, you have a scenario now that is astonishing. There are male ballet dancers who say quite openly they have no interest in partnering. Interestingly, however, you probably can have a fairly good career without ever having to have to pick up a girl and have a strain on your shoulder. In the past, it was a quiz, of pride, on both accounts. A guy wanted to be known and recognized as an perfect partner, not just as an perfect dancer, and one of the things that every girl dreaded hearing was that she is difficult to partner. Because you are part of a team one of the nicest parts of being a dancer is to find a kind of chemistry with someone. With good partnering it's roughly like your heartbeat stops as you pick up each other's rhythm. It's the most perfect feeling that exists when it happens, which is not every time, even with a partner with whom you dance together regularly. I rather regret these guys that don't know how lovely it can be to work together with somebody, but it's their selection and it's not whatever that you can alter. And, in a sense, I can sympathize. It's probably right that their knees will last much longer if they are not carrying a ballerina colse to every day. All I know is that one witnesses lots of change. At this duration of time the slightly gymnastic, slightly cool, uncommitted element is what the group requires and that's what's most deserved. I think the Royal Ballet, partly because of the heritage repertory that they retain, remains the most satisfying business in Europe. There is still a great point attached to the credibility of the story that their ballets are telling and the personality of the work when the dancers are on stage. That's rather more difficult to get in other companies because it's not part of their tradition, nor part of their advent to maintaining business identity.

Bb: I'm wondering if you can describe, even generally, the differences in the middle of the generation of dancers that you were a part of when you were performing, and dancers today. What does a career look like today that is distinct than, say, in the 1960s, 1970s, or even the 1980s?

Ms. Ruanne: This is a difficult one. I see their lives as being much easier in terms of what surrounds them, in terms of their working conditions. I don't know that there is the same hunger, but then every generation says that. everybody says, "Well, it wasn't like this in my day." What I do observation most is there is very little, or there is a very modest, interest in the theater. Dancers don't seem to care about the people who are colse to them. They seem very isolated in what they do.

You hear dancers screaming at people from wardrobe about dresses. But a dancer can't get on stage without the someone that's being screamed at. To me it's a lack of respect for the work of all the people who prepare for your performance. They're completely unseen, yet they're magicians sometimes. The rehearsals on stage aren't just for the dancers. They are also for the technical crew. They're also for the lighting people. They're also for your dressers to learn just how long there is for that quick convert and if it doesn't work the first time that is how they will learn what to do for second time. This lack of community within the theater setting among dancers is something I've noticed very much in Europe. It doesn't happen in other companies maybe where the society isn't as big. You know you go to the Finland National Ballet, which is a small company, and the people who dye your shoes are in the same building: to get by them you have to go through the hall where wardrobe is making your costume. Inevitably, you build up an entirely differently rapport because the people you see and you work with are much more part of the same world. Our advantage within the touring business was after the execution there'd be one pub that was still open, which was next door to the stage door and probably the selection was in the middle of a Greek or Chinese restaurant. In the course of things you'd find yourself with the tech crew or with musicians from the orchestra. There was an entirely distinct understanding of each other's work because it's not potential to sit opposite a lighting man and not begin to discuss-at some point-the problems of lighting dance. And either you intend to learn or not, you do by feel and knowing this other participant in your dance is just an additional one human being with a job.

We're in an extremely brittle profession, dance and cultural work doesn't keep people alive. It doesn't serve a function except from an artistic and esthetic point of view. The only way for the business to survive, in my mind, is to hire and fire. That sounds awfully brutal, but it's the truth. If somebody isn't pulling their weight or if somebody has lost the force and the desire to dance or participate fully in the life of the theater no matter what their job, then do something else. It's not a profession for the faint-hearted. This applies to any big funded European house where the people have a permanent contract, as opposed to having a contract that is renewed each year by the artistic administration.

I would dream it's getting harder and harder to get a job. It has come to be far more competitive than it was hundreds of years ago when I started to dance. There is less help and less funding. I probably would have never been able to be a dancer today. When I started training the local county council paid my dance fees. My parents couldn't afford to send me to discontinue in the Royal Ballet School. I was given a tremendous grant, which paid all my fees. Today, that's no longer potential unless you can get a scholarship and, even then, scholarships are not usually extensive so obviously dancers have much more of a question getting into a company.

You know, the image of what's required to be a dancer in a pro classical business has somehow fallen apart. I dream it's distinct in America because there are so many companies in the States compared with Europe. I don't know if they have difficulties in surviving or not, but if you think about the amount of companies that exist in Europe you don't stand half the opportunity of landing a job over here compared with the States. You have big companies with big reputations in Europe, and therefore they are very hard to get into-you know, they're the "national guardians" of classical ballet and all the rest of it. And though the doors are more open and it should be easier with the European Community, I don't think it is. I think there are more dancers but not necessarily any more jobs.

Bb: In today's dance world there is concern with "career transition" for dancers after they stop performing. Can you point to whatever that could have been more helpful in preparation you for your career roles as coach, ballet mistress, or business director? Can you recommend some ways that companies could help dancers better prepare for retirement from the stage?

Ms. Ruanne: Dancers in England subscribe to the Dancers' Resettlement Fund which, as its title implies, helps to fund dancers while they are retraining or learning for an additional one profession. It has been in existence for many years and is much accessed with great success. Some European houses try to help place dancers into other roles within the system such as technical or administrative. Of course these houses furnish very extensive pensions upon retirement, which is why dancers stay put until the bitter end and in many cases have no urgent financial need for further employment.

I personally did not passage the Drf, since as Rudolf pushed me off the bridge, as it were, and the whole process seemed inevitable. Also, my conversations with mentors like John Field at the Royal Ballet Touring Company-although held when thoughts of retirement were still in the distant future-took root and I learned about other aspects of the business by osmosis. You don't comprehend what you know until you're called upon.

I think most companies are as helpful as potential with regard to giving dancers time off in order to ease the transition. However, I do believe that it is the dancer's responsibility to give serious concept to what avenue they wish to pursue in the future, after they stop dancing. The business has already maintained them in their chosen profession, and one encounters a surprising amount of dancers who assume that the business will furnish them with ideas about what comes next in their lives.

Bb: What do you think contributes to forming a good ballet artistic director in today's dance world?

Ms. Ruanne: Artistic direction-in whatever capacity-is about accepting responsibility for a business and the satellite departments that are crucial to its function and the group it serves. On the grassroots level, an artistic director's role is a caretaker's job and I presuppose that this basic part of the job report becomes more and more difficult to maintain, not least because there are far more eggs in one's basket now. Any business that requires a board of directors, alongside the artistic, administrative, and financial directors, will inevitably take longer to get to the artistic point.

Ideally, the buck should stop at the artistic director's desk. Yet is it unquestionably fair to make one someone publicly responsible for what may have been a corporate decision-often entailing many compromises? maybe we should accept that an artistic director today can no longer enjoy the luxury of being merely well marvelous and experienced within the theatrical environment. Given the specialized zones of sway of the board members in most companies, it's probably vital to have at least a working knowledge of their expertise as well. This may facilitate a balance of power in the sense that the artistic director would have some credibility and authority within the areas of marketing, fund raising, accounting, etc., and might stand a better opportunity of having the last word on artistic matters
